THE IMITATION GAME-A MUST WATCH

x-tinymce/html The Imitation Game -an unusual name for a movie which drive our minds to think about some contests or something. But this is not just a story but the life of a great man.

x-tinymce/html This movie is loosely based on the biography of Alan Turing: The Enigma by Andrew Hodges. Alan Turing (played by Benedict Cumberbatch) was a mathematician. He decrypted German intelligence codes (Enigma) for the British government during Second World War. But the man himself is an Enigma.

x-tinymce/html The movie starts with the scene where British authorities enter Turing's house to investigate a reported burglary and ends with scene where everyone's happy except for the heart breaking words and sad dramatic tone to describe the great man's fate.

x-tinymce/html Turing is hired by the government to be a part of the team that is assigned to crack the Enigma code. Being solitary and arrogant man he didn't mingle well with others. An Enigma machine was smuggled and brought to Britain. Enigma was recorded everyday but every midnight itself the Germans changed the settings which gave them limited time to crack the code which was thought to be unbreakable.

x-tinymce/html While his team members worked on learning the codes, Alan came up with a design for a machine that will be a lot more faster than brain power. Joan Clarke (played by Keira Knightly), the only female member of the team also helps Turing out with the machine and his social life. He turns over a new leaf and the team works efficiently together on the machine. They cracked the unbreakable. Turing names the machine 'Christopher' in memory of his best friend Christopher Morcom (who died of tuberculosis at an early age) from his school days.

x-tinymce/html Morcom's words were the ones which kept him moving forward and it is one of the most memorable lines in the movie:

x-tinymce/html "Sometimes its the very people who no one imagines anything of who do the things no one can imagine."

x-tinymce/html This was what happened. After this authorities came to his house to investigate but ended up arresting him. He was convicted of indecency as he was homosexual. He undergoes chemical castration so that he could continue with his work instead of going to prison. This is where the movie ends but the bitter truth is he commits suicide after undergoing one year of hormone treatment (in 1954). The Queen granted him posthumous pardon in 2013.

x-tinymce/html Alan Turing's work i.e, Turing machine inspired many of the research. Now we call THEM computers and HE is widely known as Father of the Modern Computer.

x-tinymce/html My views:

x-tinymce/html This movie really inspired me. It taught me that determination and hard work hand in hand can be a deadly combination. Nothing is impossible. This movie proved that determination and willingness to work along with positive attitude can even make impossible possible. The line "Sometimes..." was something that changed my whole perception of life. I highly recommend this movie. Benedict Cumberbatch and his co-actors did a wonderful acting to bring this movie to life. This is a must watch.

x-tinymce/html "A computer deserve to be called intelligent if it could deceive a human into believing that it was human.."
